Save Kemper Arena

Kemper Arena is currently being threatened to be torn down by the American Royal. The American Royal wants to construct a new, smaller complex on the land to better suit their needs and is asking for $50 million in public funding. This includes putting the city on the hook for a $6 million tear down of the arena. Unfortunately, the American Royal has a lot of political power behind it in Kansas City, and the destruction of Kemper Arena is a real possibility.

A New Kemper

On the other hand, Foutch Brothers is proposing to redevelop the historic Kemper Arena. The renovation plan is to convert the building from the current arena into a multi-level facility to be utilized by the growing amateur sports community in the Kansas City metropolitan area. A Plan To Coexist

An important point, Foutch Brothers proposal would still allow the new American Royal Complex to be built and only result in a loss of 150 parking spaces. The American Royal refuses to acknowledge this as a possibility. They cite a need for more space, but looking at a map, this seems a bit ridiculous.

Toward the Future

Past to be proud of

Kemper Arena has an incredible history in Kansas City. Opening in 1974, the arena won awards for the modern design and architecture of the building. It has been home to NBA and NHL teams, a Final Four, a political national convention, and hosted concerts for the biggest names: Pink Floyd, Queen, Journey, Bruce Springsteen, Jay-Z and many more.
